What is espadrille , and why are there such different prices?

Have you ever been through this: you went to buy the shoe of your dreams, but found it too expensive and went looking for similar ones that fit your budget at the time? It happens, right?

There are many questions that need to be clarified on this subject, and the answers explain well why the price difference. Behind each piece there is a long story, and there are several ways to produce a product, with completely different final results. The chosen raw material is just part of this.

Firstly, do you know what espadrille is ? Originally the espadrille is a shoe with a sole made of braided esparto and the upper (which is the upper part of the shoe) made of canvas. Esparto is the name of some herbs, among others alfa, whose leaves and stems are used in the manufacture of ropes, mats, mats, etc. Tramadie's espadrilles maintain the original production process, that is, our soles are made from handcrafted esparto, one by one.

The models with lower prices are not made by hand as in the original process. They are produced on fast machines and have soles made of plastic, with ropes glued only on the outside, to simulate the appearance of traditional espadrilles.

Our development process starts with those who design the shoes and then we move on to modeling, testing, assembly and riding. This stage alone takes weeks, even months and many tests take place. Then we have to choose the raw material and how to work with it: whether we are going to dye or embroider the canvas or leather, which accessories to use in this model, etc... Throughout this process we must always maintain the brand's quality standards. Furthermore, there is the background of each process, which is important to us: how were the chosen inputs produced? Knowing that the shoe on our feet has not gone through abusive work processes is essential for us, as consumers and as a brand.

Throughout development, choices change everything! The more special the product is, the longer and more specific the process becomes and, logically, the more special that product becomes. A brand that cares about details like these needs well-qualified people, and more qualified people cost more, so that the entire chain is fair. Factories that are more careful in their assembly assemble more slowly, so they end up assembling fewer products at the end of the day, and therefore cost more. Regarding the raw material, the range of choices is immense! There are different types of options and some are really “similar”, but with different prices. and why this happens? Who makes this raw material? Why is one cheaper than the other, which is similar? In addition to the composition (which can be with a greater or lesser percentage of natural or synthetic inputs) a good part of this response is in the labor force. For example, would you feel good knowing that your shoe was made with raw materials from socially exploitative work? In addition to the final quality of these inputs, responsible brands choose their suppliers knowing the entire manufacturing process.

Now, knowing all this, what is Tramadie espadrille? As we are absolutely passionate about espadrilles and love to walk around, we strive to produce the tastiest ones! The beautiful Tramadie espadrilles are made with high quality, hand-woven esparto, maintaining the original standards of the product.

Our tips are made in a women-only cooperative, and we keep the crochet open to allow air circulation. All of our raw materials are of the highest quality and we know all our partners: from those who produce the canvas to those who dye it, those who produce the soles, etc... We are absolutely keen to maintain our artisanal process, despite it not being the simplest. not the cheapest. This is what results in the most beautiful, comfortable and timeless espadrilles. Espadrilles were born in Europe and the original process remains there today. It was this process that we chose to produce Tramadie espadrilles.
